Hi, I’m Teegan Mitchell, I started sailing at Southport Yacht Club on the Broadwater 10 years ago when I was 7 years old. My sailing journey started out in the Optimist Class, transitioning to the Laser 2 years ago. When I was 12 I ventured into keel boat racing in the Etchells class and more recently included the Heron class.
It has been my dream to sail on a ‘tall ship’ and have been nominated to sail on the STV Windeward Bound 2025 East Coast Youth Leadership Challenge, sailing from Southport to Newcastle over 10 days. I will be sailing with 18 youth between the ages of 14 to 17 from diverse backgrounds to promote understanding, inclusiveness and community.
I love sailing because I feel so free out on the water, surrounded by marine life. Sailing is a great sport for all ages and abilities, and a great social platform too. I attend Tamborine Mountain College in Year 11 studying a Certificate in Sport & Recreation: Coaching, which will compliment my Full Instructor qualification. I am also completing a Certificate in Marine Studies and volunteer with Humpback whale research - my passion for Marine life and their preservation will potentially result in a career as a Marine Ecologist. As the Junior Commodore of Southport Sailing Club I believe the voyage will boost my confidence and further develop my personal and team goals, and look forward to many physical and mental challenges.
My aim is to raise a minimum of $500 to support not only my voyage, but that of the not-for-profit Windeward Bound Trust and Rotary Australian Districts. Your contribution, no matter how small, will mean not only a lot to me, but to others as well as it will enable them to participate in this and future voyages. All donations above $2 are tax deductible and by donating through my supporter hub you will receive a tax receipt.
I look forward to this Youth Adventure Voyage and hope to share my experience with you!
